THOSE MAGICAL MOMENTS

Our friends and family think we make big decisions fast.  When in truth my husband and I mull over the big decisions for months and months; discussing the pros and cons, weighing our options and then, boom, something magical happens. But come on, when magic happens what choice do we have but to jump in with both feet. Yet that still seems to surprise everyone.  That was the case with our decision to move from Charleston, SC to Woolwine, VA. While we had been considering moving for the better part of a year once that magical moment happened, we had purchased a farm and moved 6 hours away within three months, hence, the reputation of making big decisions fast.

My husband, Rodger is a mountain man who grew up in Southwestern Virginia, while I am a water girl through and through.  We had been discussing what do to with the next phase of our lives when we came upon Floyd, Virginia on a road trip in the summer of 2016 - and that’s where it all began.  Immediately after that trip, we knew this would be our new home and started secretly combing the internet looking at farms for sale.  I found a real estate agent and we began making weekly trips to Floyd, Virginia and the surrounding area. This went on for about two months, when we found what we were looking for…in truth it happened to be the very first farm we looked at. But, who buys the first farm they ever look at? That would be crazy!  So, we kept looking, yet always came back to this magical place we now call home, Chapman Knoll.

After the first month of searching for our dream farm, we told our children the plans of our move and they were in complete shock. Our daughter lives in Charleston and our son and his family loved vacationing there so they were both very upset with us.  They just couldn't seem to wrap their heads around such a change. As we talked through our plans, they began to see our vision and were on board in no time.  It was a good thing too, because we were already in love.

We went back and put a contract on that first farm we ever looked at and began telling our family and friends of the move.  They thought we were crazy and couldn’t wrap their heads around our big decision, telling us it was too rash, but that didn't stop us from our dream.  We put our Charleston house on the market and just four days later it sold and we began preparing for our new adventure here at Chapman Knoll!
